Counselling for Men in Kent

Most men leave it too long. They wait until things have piled up, until someone else nudges them, or until they just cannot ignore it any more.

Counselling For Men In Kent

If that sounds like you, you are in good company. And there is no lecture coming.

I am Nigel Sutcliffe, a BACP registered counsellor in East Kent. I work with men and teenage boys, and I keep it plain. No jargon, no clipboard, no sense that you are being picked apart.

What brings men here

Men come to me for all sorts of reasons. Some know exactly what is wrong. Others just feel off and cannot quite name it.

Maybe you recognise some of this:

  • Anger that has started to cost you, at home or at work
  • Anxiety you have been hiding behind a calm face
  • Low mood that will not shift, with no obvious reason
  • Stress from work, money or family that keeps stacking up
  • Grief you never really dealt with
  • Something you did, or something that happened to you, that you have never told a soul

You do not need a crisis to come. If it is weighing on you, that is reason enough.

How I work

I shape the sessions around you. That is what integrative means, in plain terms.

Some men want to talk it all out. Some find that hard, at least at first, and that is fine. We do not force it.

Where there is trauma sitting underneath, I use EMDR, which needs a lot less talking than people expect.

Mostly, I listen. Then we work out together what might actually help.

Counselling for teenage boys

Teenage boys are a bit different. Ask one to sit and talk about his feelings and you will usually get a shrug.

So I do not ask him to. Not straight away.

We find a way in that suits him. Parents are often surprised how much shifts once a boy has his own space, away from home and school, where nothing gets reported back.

I work with boys from around thirteen upward.

Where do we meet in Kent?

I see clients face-to-face across East Kent. Canterbury, Ashford, Dover, Deal and nearby.

Short on time, or would you rather skip the waiting room? Online sessions work well, and plenty of men prefer them. You fit it around your week.

Ready when you are

Getting started is the hard part. You are most of the way there just by reading this.

Book a session or send me a message, and we will take the next step together.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mens Counselling
I have never done this before. What do I even say?

Whatever is on your mind. There is no right answer and no script. I ask a few questions and we go from there.

Yes, boys from around thirteen up. I give them their own confidential space, separate from parents and school

That is common, honestly. Plenty of men are not. We do not force it, and some of the work, like EMDR, needs far less talking than you would think.

Is it confidential?

Yes. What you say stays between us, within a few professional limits I will explain at the start.

Face to face across East Kent, including Canterbury, Ashford, Dover and Deal, and online across Kent and further out.

No. If something is bothering you, that will do. You do not need a diagnosis or a disaster to book.
